Much ado about The Greenbrier
The West Virginia Weakly Greenbrier Extra for Tuesday, August 27, 2024
I fully intended to be on the road today.
I took the day off from my regular gig to put to work the money readers like you have contributed to the West Virginia Weakly. I planned to get up super early, grab some coffee, pump some gas and point my car toward the home county of Gov. Jim Justice.
At one point last week, I even popped onto the internet with a mind toward using Weakly money to pay for a night’s stay at the General Lewis Inn in Lewisburg.
The General Lewis would have been the perfect base from which to report back on the day’s events. After all, the historic inn is within walking distance of the Greenbrier County Courthouse where the venerable Greenbrier Hotel was scheduled to be auctioned today to the highest bidder.
But as my finger hovered over the confirmation button, I thought better of it. The Inn’s website warned me that if I proceeded, I wouldn’t be able to get a refund if I changed my mind. My stay was simply on too short a notice to expect to get my money back, so I listened to the voice in the back of my head and put the Weakly’s debit card back in my wallet. Dave and I need to be good stewards of the money you have entrusted to us.
