Day Seven: Gov. Morrisey Calls for Major Disaster Declaration
The West Virginia Weakly Legislative Daybook for February 18, 2024
Today is Tuesday, February 18, 2024, the 7th day of the West Virginia Legislature’s regular session.
It’s Occupational Therapy Association Day, EMS Day and West Virginia Athletic Day at the Capitol. A number of other groups will be milling about including representatives from Glenville State University and the West Virginia Association of Local Health Departments.
Highlights (all times and agendas subject to change)
9:00 a.m. — The Department of Transportation and the Secretary of State’s office will give budget presentations in the House Finance Committee.
9:00 a.m. — The House Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on HJR 13, a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would prohibit non-U.S. citizens from voting in any election held within the state (which is already on the books in Chapter 3 of state code).
10:00 a.m. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey will hold a news conference to give an update on flooding in southern West Virginia. In a news release issued yesterday, Morrisey said he had traveled to the areas affected by the weekend storm and has asked President Trump for a Major Disaster Declaration.
SB 460, which would loosen school vaccine requirements, is on the amendment stage on the Senate floor today.
1:00 p.m. — The Senate Health Committee will take a look at SB 299. The measure deals with hormonal modifications.
3:00 a.m. — In the Senate Finance Committee, budget presentations will be given by the Treasurer’s office, as well as West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
The House and Senate will gavel in for their floor sessions at the regular time, at 11 a.m.
